WESTERN EMULSIONS’ TUCSON TESTING LAB RECEIVES AASHTO ACCREDITATION

Tucson, AZ -- 4/15/2015 -- Western Emulsions Inc. has earned accreditation for its Tucson asphalt and emulsions testing laboratory from the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials’ (AASHTO) Accreditation Program (AAP), passing a rigorous on-site third party evaluation for quality in its standards and processes.
According to Western Emulsions Technical Director C. Andrew Clayton, “AASHTO’s accreditation is extremely meaningful to our team and to our customers, who depend upon us to meet established state specifications in a variety of regions we serve. We are proud our laboratory can demonstrate that our testing services not only conform to specific national and international standards, but are also of the highest quality.”
Mr. Clayton said in AASHTO’s assessment of the lab, each test method was demonstrated in its entirety by the laboratory’s technical staff, and the testing apparatus associated with each test was evaluated. The process encompassed a thorough review of the laboratory’s quality management system, including records of technician training and competency evaluations as well as equipment calibration and check records. Additionally, a detailed review of all accreditation requirements is conducted for each accredited laboratory at least once per year moving forward.
The AASHTO Accreditation Program (AAP) was established in 1988 as a means of formally recognizing the competence of testing laboratories to perform specific tests on construction materials. AAP is a voluntary program available to all testing laboratories including government, commercial, university, and research facilities. According to AASHTO, more than 1,750 individual laboratories are currently accredited through AAP, making it the largest accrediting body of construction materials testing laboratories. The program accredits for over 650 AASHTO, ASTM, or state standards.
